Were we stand so far.

There has been some interest already, 12 people have signed up. The project has been going on officially at the Hollies since the 14 of March. We can take an unlimited amount of people, as that is what the public liability covers us under (within reason), Children are covered as well.
We have been given long term use of about one third of an acre, this is south facing and well sheltered. We have also sourced seeds and some gardening tools and a big pile of manure that we will make into compost for next autumn. Big thanks to those who have made this possible.
The Hollies have asked, if we could help them by joining in to the work days that they organise (2 days a year). This I passed on to the group and nobody had any objections. There will be 26 days in the year that we will be visiting the garden, we will help the hollies on two of these days. Personally I think it is a good thing to do. There has been a mountain of work done already, well done guys :)
It is also never to late to join in all welcome

We still need:
More participants,
Friendly farmer with some old Hay or straw to give away,
More tools, old tunnel, more seeds maybe,
People to pass on the message. Please tell those you think could help.

We rely on the public, the rich and poor alike to fund this project.

Here are some pictures of our most resent gardening day.
The next one will be on the 25th at 11 o' clock, all welcome.

We planted a bed and a half of leeks, a bed of letuce, and three beds of brasicas.

It was a realy nice and sunny day and most of us became quite tired just from the heat. Karren gave a workshop on willow growing, and we planted a living willow structure and planted 30 plants of basketry willow.

It is great to see it all starting to come together and it is important to point out that at any time new faces will be welcomed.

Till then Best wishes David.

Hi Guys,
It was great to see some new faces jet again, especially two Jung girls of the age of around 4. This has given rise to us planning to plant living willow structures, in order to create a safe and fun environment for kids too.
Thanks to all who could make it out last Sunday, it was hard getting up that hour earlier. We got lots done, we did things like:
Onion planting/ we made more beds/ planted up 6 beds of potatoes/ made a good start on our compost heap and sowed a lots of different veg seed in trays and pots.
The weather was again on our side and people remained socialising, we decided to finish next time with some teas and cakes.

All new comers welcome.

We are also doing a two day workshop; this is free on container gardening, wormeries and compost teas. The Growin Project aims at teaching youth (age 15 to 25) how to grow veggies, so they can do this at home in whatever space available to them. For more info please follow this link.

Best wishes David.

Hi all,
so we will meet again in the car park at the Hollies at 11 this Sunday.
Please let me know if you are stuck for a lift again, those of you who got lifts before, please try the same people as before.

It is important to ring me before hand for directions, as the reception is very poor and I will not be able to help. It is also important to be on time in the car park, if you don't know the site, as finding it is difficult.
Also please bring some tools, as we were a bit short on shovels. I will donate some more, but the number seams to be growing so that is one thing that could be useful. Please bring the usual: / packed lunch/ rain gear/ Teas, coffee/.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes David.

We have been lucky with the weather so far.
Another day of sunshine, also plenty of people showed up. Thanks guys.
We will meet again on the 28th of March at 11.00 pm, please be on time.

We were making beds and it was great to get so many done. In total 10 beds, and are actually ahead of schedule in relation to our sowing plan. We also started collecting materials for the compost making, a big pile of bracken ideal for adding carbon and minerals to the pile. At the end of the day we planted the first outdoor crop (Parsnips), and finished the day with lots of people hanging on and socialising.

What a great day again, at the Hollies!!
We decided to not do the compost but instead marked out the beds, and we even started making the lazy beds (see photos). We will do the compost next time; witch will also be the Official opening day for the project. The 14th of March.
It was quite amazing; at witch speed me and Karren managed to make the vegetable bed. And we also marked out the hole of the beds with strings and small stakes, so we will be pretty much ready to go in March.
For those who don't know, Karren is our other Greenfriends Gardener, she will be also helping with any questions on the day.

The first picture is the site, all the others are us making the lazy bed and the last one is our farm yard manure pile.
Best wishes David.

Hi All,
so today (6thFeb.) was a great day out at the community Garden (with such nice weather). We limed the 3rd of an acre and had a general look at the site. The next one is on Sunday the 21st of Feb. and we will start making compost for the day, this in preparation for next autumn. I have also started of some leek and cauliflower seedlings and tomorrow will do other ones as well, for planting out end of March.
Also there are quite a few who would need lifts from Bantry, so if any one can offer lifts. One lady is in need of a lift from Cork as well.
Best wishes David.
